New change in the app store requires developers to provide contact information in the European Union
A significant change has been implemented in the app store in the European Union, where developers will now be required to provide a public address and phone number, effective today, making this information visible to customers in the region. This change is part of a set of new rules introduced by the Digital Services Act (DSA).
According to “9to5Mac,” this requirement includes companies like Apple, where they must verify and display contact information for any merchants distributing digital applications, directly impacting the app store.
Apple indicates that a developer is considered a merchant under EU terms if they generate any revenue from their app, not limited to direct revenues from app store sales, but also including in-app purchases and ads.
Developers must provide their public merchant data to continue submitting new apps or updates to the app store, and failure to do so will prevent them from doing so.
Apple warns developers who do not comply with providing their public address and phone number by February 17, 2025, that their apps will be removed from the App Store in the European Union.
For individual developers, the DSA law requires the EU app store to display their address or P.O. box, phone number, and email address. For institutions, only a phone number and email address are required. Users will be able to find this information below the description of each app in the App Store, making it easier for customers to communicate with developers.
