Apple launches new AirPods Max headphones after 4 years of absence
After nearly four years without an update or release of new wireless headphones, Apple announced today on Monday the release of a new version of AirPods Max headphones, where the main upgrade is transitioning from the company’s Lightning port to USB-C.
Apple held its annual event today at the company’s headquarters in the United States under the title It’s Glow Time, where it unveiled the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, along with the new generation of its smartwatches, in addition to the new AirPods 4 headphones.
As Apple continues to shift towards relying on USB-C charging ports instead of the Lightning port introduced 12 years ago, the AirPods line was one of the company’s last product lines to bid farewell to the exclusive port.
After Apple introduced a USB-C charging case for the AirPods Pro 2 headphones last year as a cost-effective way to upgrade the charging port without replacing the earphones, users of the AirPods Max headphones will have to replace the headphones completely to get USB-C.
On the sidelines of its annual conference, the company announced that the new headphones, AirPods Max, are available for pre-order starting today Monday, with five new color options including black, gray, orange, blue, and purple.
The headphones will be available for $549 (same price as the previous model) and will be available in markets and official stores starting from September 20th.
