Starting July, all games available on the PS4 must officially support the PS5

Details about the compatibility feature are still somewhat mysterious on the upcoming PlayStation 5 console with the current PlayStation 4 content, which I tried to discuss yesterday, due to a variety of details that surfaced by the official PlayStation 5 website before being deleted by Sony.

However, today, through exciting new information from the Eurogamer website, they have obtained a series of documents sent by Sony to developers, particularly as they prepare to transition to their new home console. Consequently, the licensing system for releasing games on the PlayStation 4 has undergone several changes.

According to the mentioned website, these documents oblige developers planning to launch games on the PlayStation 4 after July 13th to ensure that these titles are compatible with the PlayStation 5 and that the version sent by developers supports the device as stated in the documents.

The company also requires all development studios to make titles compatible with the PlayStation 5 device, including the controls and features that must be as similar as on the PlayStation 4, with no significant differences in available features for users except for graphics and upcoming features with the PlayStation 5 such as fast data loading through SSD.

Furthermore, the company also talks about updates that will be available for these games after their release, and developers primarily need to ensure they are compatible with both consoles. As for games released before July 13th and still receiving updates, Sony does not mandate developers to make them support the PlayStation 5, but recommends making them support the platform as well. This confirms that the company is taking matters seriously, and it’s only a matter of time to discover all this up close. Best regards.
