Steam announces the sale of access licenses for games
In an exclusive news, Steam, the digital gaming platform owned by Valve, has introduced a new change aimed at increasing transparency with its users.
This update comes in response to a recently introduced law in California that requires digital companies to clarify the nature of purchase transactions.
Now, before completing a purchase on Steam, users will notice a message stating that “purchasing the digital product grants a license to use it on Steam”.
This means that players do not actually own the game, but only receive a license that may expire one day. Previously, this detail was only available in the platform’s terms and conditions.
Although this modification was originally aimed at California residents, Valve seems to have decided to expand the scope of transparency by providing this information in several countries around the world.
