YouTube is testing a new button to save Shorts videos

YouTube has announced the testing of new improvements in the user interface for Shorts, the platform’s short video feature. They have started adding a “Save” button that makes it easier for users to keep the videos they want to watch later. This new feature is aimed at enhancing user experience and engagement with the fast-paced content delivered through Shorts.

Despite the benefit of this new button, it replaces the “Dislike” button, meaning users will not be able to express their dissatisfaction with videos directly from the Shorts player interface. Instead, the “Dislike” button will be moved to the side menu of the player, potentially affecting how the audience interacts with the content.

YouTube is currently testing this new interface with a limited number of users worldwide and intends to evaluate feedback before rolling it out on a wider scale. This move aims to facilitate the process of saving short videos that quickly disappear, allowing users to easily return and watch them whenever they want through the “Save” button.

In an official statement, YouTube explained that the “Save” button will appear within the new Shorts interface, giving users flexibility to save videos to a new playlist or an existing one. It is expected that this modification will encourage increased interaction with short content and add more videos to personal playlists.

On another note, YouTube is also testing extending the length of Shorts videos up to a maximum of 3 minutes, with algorithms trained to improve the recommendation of these videos to users based on their interests.
