Yooka-Replaylee Developers Eagerly Anticipate Switch 2 Release
Yooka Replaylee appears to be the second confirmed game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 – or whatever it will be called in the end – according to some hints dropped by the developer on Thursday.
Playtonic Games, who developed the original Yooka Laylee and is working on this enhanced version, released a trailer announcing that the game is coming to consoles after the initial reveal on the Steam page for PC only. In the end of the teaser, which you can watch above, Playtonic lists the launch platforms: Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. However, between PS5 and PC, there is a mysterious Nintendo logo.
While this doesn’t mean much in itself, Playtonic reiterated the confirmed platforms on their official Twitter account, with a specific highlight on Nintendo. In a press statement, the studio also indicated that it is coming to “Nintendo platforms.” The message said, “Test the final version of Yooka and Laylee’s first adventure on a platform of your choice at launch… wait, too early for that.”
In addition to PC, Yooka Replaylee will be available on PS5, Xbox Series, and…Nintendo 👀

While Nintendo has not officially revealed the Switch 2 yet (despite acknowledging its existence), other developers have begun teasing upcoming releases for the platform. For My Time in Evershine became Kickstarter, developer Pathea Games, was the first to confirm that the game will come to “the next generation of Nintendo consoles,” adding that backers will receive a Switch 1 code if Switch 2 is not available at release. It also hinted that the game will release “on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and upcoming Nintendo platforms that have not been announced yet.”
“Nintendo platforms” seems to be the established language for games being developed for the Switch 2, and now as we near the expected announcement of the console, you can expect more upcoming games to follow suit.
Yooka Replaylee is the “enhanced final version” of Yooka Laylee, the spiritual heir to 2017’s Rare’s Banjo Kazooie. (The developer Playtonic actually consists of former Rare employees.) The game is a 3D platformer and retro throwback that Digital Trends thought recaptured the “beloved feel” of Banjo Kazooie “but failed” to add anything significantly new or interesting.
Playtonic adds a lot of new features to the enhanced version, including new characters, a new currency, higher-resolution visuals, and improvements on familiar challenges. They also added a task tracking tool to the new world map and rearranged soundtrack music. There is no specific release window at this time.
