Worldcoin Company changes its name to World and shifts focus to human identity verification technology.

Worldcoin, founded by Sam Altman, has announced a name change to World, as it shifts away from the cryptocurrency aspect to focus on identity recognition technology. This transition follows the launch of a new version of its distinctive biometric device.

Through this new direction, the company aims to enhance the use of eye scanning technology for verifying human identity, which could be beneficial in the face of misleading videos that utilize advanced artificial intelligence techniques.

Co-CEO Alex Blania announced a new device called Orb, a biometric eye scanner utilizing an identity verification service called Deep Face. The new device operates using NVIDIA Jetson chip, will be made available on demand, as Hardware Director Rich Helly explained at the device’s launch event in San Francisco. He also mentioned that obtaining the device will be as easy and straightforward as ordering pizza!

According to the company statement, these advancements will provide new ways to confirm human identity using World ID in various locations around the world. It is noted that around 7 million people worldwide have had their identities scanned using World Orb devices so far.

At the end of the event, all attendees received a free Orb device for identity verification.
