Windows 7 is still alive! Here’s how to continue your journey with it safely.
Why does Microsoft recommend moving to Windows 10?
The only problem now is that Microsoft has completely abandoned Windows 7 and no longer cares about sending any security updates to its users. There may be some exceptional updates that you can find on some Microsoft-affiliated websites, but it is impossible, or at least very rare, for this update to come to you in the form of an automatic Windows Update. You will have to search for it, download it yourself, and install it manually. In other words, this means that you will not search and explore every now and then.
What does Microsoft’s end of support for Windows 7 mean?
Try to arm yourself with knowledge and educate yourself about operating system weaknesses, deception, phishing, ransomware, etc. While this is an essential point for any operating system and user, it is particularly necessary for Windows 7 users to keep abreast of emerging risks. This way, you will protect yourself, secure your device, and know how to deal with such risks.
Activate the firewall
If you encounter very serious viruses to the point where your antivirus program is not able to discover them, or for any other reason, if a malicious program manages to penetrate and escape from your antivirus, it will be faced directly with the firewall. Just make sure to activate it from the control panel, then system security, then the firewall. In addition, there is a feature called Whilelisting, through which you can tell the Windows system which programs are authorized to run and which programs are not authorized.
Remove unnecessary programs
This is something that everyone should do in reality, but when using an old operating system, more caution and care should be taken. You should immediately start removing all programs that you do not know their sources and programs that you do not need from the control panel. You will find that you have many unwanted tools and programs that are usually installed as add-ons for other programs. This will ensure that there are no programs that are likely to be vulnerable to attacks or infiltration.
Use a password manager and activate two-factor authentication
Password management tools are great in themselves and have the ability to track passwords very well. Since Windows 7 is more vulnerable to attacks, recycling passwords is not recommended. Therefore, in this case, it is best to rely on a password manager like LastPass or 1Password, or rely on the password manager built into Chrome browser or any other browser – but remember that browsers do not support two-factor authentication, making you vulnerable.
Make sure your Windows 7 system has the latest update package
Certainly, there are no official updates from the company for Windows 7, but at least make sure you have the latest official updates released by the company for you before they stop supporting the system. No matter how much your internet package is a barrier for you, do not let it be a reason to close any updates from Microsoft – in other words, do not disable Windows updates.

Use VPN
We were supposed to allocate this section to disable internet connection for any device still operating through Windows 7 as it will be more susceptible to serious online attacks than any other operating system. But if you find yourself doing all your work through a single device running Windows 7 and cannot give up the internet, at least try to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and choose a strong one as it will secure your traffic and fully encrypt your presence on the internet.
