Windows 11 now supports Wi-Fi 7 network.. Internet speed will become lightning fast on your computer.
Microsoft continues to improve the Windows 11 operating system, ensuring it remains the most powerful and innovative system, instead of announcing its successor and launching Windows 12. As usual, the company releases new development builds every week, allowing users to have first access to the latest enhancements and features coming to this system. Although generally minor changes, the changes we are witnessing today will take Windows 11 to a new level.
Windows 11 allows us to connect to the Internet via cable and Wi-Fi networks. Within a Wi-Fi network, we can use both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, depending on our devices and network properties. However, in terms of standards, we can benefit from faster connectivity through Wi-Fi 5 or, if we have a compatible router, through Wi-Fi 6.
A month ago, the Wi-Fi Alliance announced the release of the new Wi-Fi 7 standard (IEEE 802.11be). This standard stands out from previous standards as it provides extremely low latency, superior network reliability and stability, in addition to higher connection speeds.
Although this is a new standard, some companies, such as Digi, have already started delivering the first Wi-Fi 7 routers to their customers. It is of little use if we do not have an operating system that supports it. Well, as of today, Windows 11 supports it.
Just a few hours ago, Microsoft released a new build of the Windows 11 operating system, version 26063, within the Canary development channel. This update has addressed a significant number of bugs and issues found in the operating system, as well as improved some aspects. Additionally, it has also added support (currently in testing) for this new Wi-Fi 7 standard.
Microsoft confirms that this standard will allow us to connect to the Internet at speeds up to 4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, even up to 6 times faster than Wi-Fi 5. In addition, thanks to the significantly lower latency, we can have a much better experience, for example, when making video calls or streaming games.
– How to use Wi-Fi 7 in the Windows 11 operating system
As we mentioned, the connection method using this protocol is still experimental and is only available to users who have already installed this test update within the Insider program. In addition to having this version of Windows 11 (or any newer version), we will also need to obtain a Wi-Fi 7 adapter for the personal computer, as well as a next-generation router that supports this standard.
Naturally, if we have a router equipped with WiFi 7, it will also be compatible with previous standards, so if we have a computer, smartphone, or any device with an earlier version, we can connect to this router without any problems. Of course, at the speed dictated by the Wi-Fi version we are using.
