What does the red LED light on your router mean? And why should you be concerned about it?
Routers are our gateway to the internet. Their stability is key when it comes to enjoying a good quality connection on a daily basis. However, there are times when issues can leave us disconnected for a long period, which is why the red LED light is commonly used to indicate a specific problem..
In most routers, a red LED light on the router device does not suddenly indicate anything good. If the internet connection is lost, this light will appear on the router. If the LED indicator is red, it means there is an issue with the network. The red light indicates that an internet connection cannot be established, either due to our own problem or due to an issue with the service provider. If the problem is on our end, it could be a broken or damaged fiber optic cable. If it’s the provider’s fault, there’s not much we can do except wait for them to fix it or contact them.
In other routers, the use of the red light may change to other colors. Such as orange, or white instead. If the light is flashing quickly in white, it means the fibers are not connected. If the light is steady white or flashing slowly white, it means the fibers are connected but the internet password has not been entered or there is no internet connection.
In short, the lights on the router are a very important way to inform us of a problem with our fiber optic connection. Referring to the router’s manual is the best recommended option, but if our router is in place and we haven’t touched the cables at all, the issue is likely related to the service provider, and we should wait some time for it to be fixed, or restart the router to see if that resolves it.
