We Heard a Major Rumor About Christopher Nolan’s Latest Film
Spider-Man Actor Tom Holland has been chosen for the next film by Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan, and while no one is entirely sure about the subject of this film yet, we have just heard a very exciting and intriguing rumor about it.
Since Universal announced its return to work with Nolan, fans everywhere have started speculating about the nature of the film. One rumor is that it is a horror film. Another reason is that it is a helicopter action film like 1983’s Blue Thunder. Hollywood Reporter wrote about Holland’s casting that “the place is not in our time (although it is unclear whether the events take place in the past or in the future).” Well, we heard that two of those may be correct. io9 got information from a reliable source that Nolan’s film is a vampire film set in the 1920s.
We know what you’re thinking: “Isn’t Alice Ryan Coogler already making this film?” Yes, he is. It’s called The Sinners and it’s in March. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for filmmakers with a vision to tackle the same subject, especially when the releases are very far apart. Remember, Nolan wasn’t just one of the many directors who dealt with Batman, he also directed a magical film. The Prestige – at the same time that a competing studio was making a magical film, The Illusionist. He’s not confined by what others do. Additionally, it doesn’t seem like horror films set in a different time period are showing up in theaters across the country these days or ever. There’s plenty of room for two or maybe more.
io9 reached out to Universal to confirm or deny the rumors and did not receive a response at the time of publication. We will update the post if and when we do.
So is Nolan’s latest film a vampire film? Maybe, but we can’t say for sure. What we can say for sure is that it’s Nolan’s first film since his Oscar win for Best Picture and Best Director Openheimer. It stars Matt Damon, and now Tom Holland, who is said to be filming the movie alongside Spider-Man 4 and The Avengers: Judgment Day. We also know that it will be released by Universal in IMAX on July 17, 2026.
Let’s be honest though. We all want this rumor to be true, don’t we? We want to see Matt Damon and Tom Holland wearing long flowing coats together tearing people’s throats in an IMAX 70mm film with your seat vibrating from a massive Hans Zimmer score. That sounds like a perfect cinema night. Let’s cross our fingers… but no vampires.
