Watch an amazing one-hour presentation of the Star Citizen story mode titled Squadron 42 and the release date.

The annual CitizenCon conference, which took place on October 19-20, witnessed a long-awaited moment with the unveiling of the first chapter of the story mode called Squadron 42. Cloud Imperium Games, the development studio, presented a demo showing significant progress in the game development, increasing players’ excitement about its anticipated release.

During the event, Cloud Imperium showcased a new demo for the main story mode of Star Citizen called Squadron 42, and developers revealed the official release date of the game to be in 2026. To celebrate this announcement, they also shared a new video clip which can be found below.

Squadron 42 is the main story mode of the game based on the world of Star Citizen, sharing the same engine and universe. The game has been developed using the StarEngine engine and features a cast of famous actors such as Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Henry Cavill, Gillian Anderson, and John Rhys-Davies. Additionally, there are more actors like Liam Cunningham, Mark Strong, Craig Fairbrass, and Ben Mendelsohn in the game as well.

As you can see, the in-game footage of Squadron 42 looks fantastic and is worth the wait. Despite some frame rate and stuttering issues at times, and the quality of shadows, the StarEngine engine promises to deliver many modern technologies that showcase lighting and physics at their best quality, with no loading screens. The developers will use the RTGI technology (Ray-Traced Global Illumination) in both Squadron 42 and Star Citizen, and the game is likely to support AI technologies like DLSS, FSR, and XeSS.
