Ukraine awards Google the “Peace Prize” for its work in the war
Just hours ago, the Ukrainian government recognized Google with the “Peace Prize.” This recognition is due to the efforts made by the company in combating misinformation during the current war with Russia.
Mikhailo Fedorov, the Minister of Digital Transformation in Ukraine, announced this news on his Twitter account. There is also a picture of the minister presenting a commemorative plaque to Karan Bhatia (Google’s Deputy Chief of Public Policy and Government Affairs).
It’s somewhat unusual to read about “awards and peace” in the context of the Russian invasion or military operation. However, the reality is that since the start of the conflict, Google has indirectly engaged by disrupting military operations (such as hiding information from Google Maps) and clarifying fake news and misleading information.
Similarly, Google has made efforts to raise donations and send humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people.
