Uber considers acquiring Expedia
Uber is reportedly considering acquiring Expedia, one of the largest travel booking companies in the world, according to a report from the Financial Times. Expedia is valued at $20 billion and recorded its highest revenues in 2023. If the deal goes through, it would be the largest in Uber’s history.
So far, Uber has not made an official offer and is still assessing the financial and operational aspects of the deal with the help of advisors.
Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, may avoid participating in the negotiations because he was the former CEO of Expedia and remains a board member. The report indicates that the idea of the deal came from a third party.
Uber has been looking to expand its travel booking business for some time, adding services for train, bus, and air travel in some markets. It previously acquired Postmates for food delivery and acquired Careem in 2019 for $3.1 billion.
