Two ways to block spam messages in Gmail

Email, a term that has become widely popular among internet users nowadays, some hear about it, and many internet users consider it as an essential tool, email has now become the main, fastest, and most important alternative to regular mail, making life easier in many ways. The Gmail email, owned by the global company Google, has a prominent position in this field, if not currently occupying the top position globally among email users in general. As mentioned by Mr. Mahmoud Monir in a great article about the 13 features of Gmail and another article titled “Protecting Gmail Email from Hacking,” with the increasing use of email, there is a huge amount of unwanted and annoying messages that we receive all the time, causing us great annoyance and overcrowding of the inbox. These messages are sometimes advertisements, promotions, or a result of our previous subscriptions to websites and forums that send these messages to us periodically, and we do not know how to get rid of them except by deleting them. Today, we will learn about two different ways to get rid of these annoying messages on Gmail completely, and you have the right, dear reader, to use the method that suits you personally.

Advantages of using Gmail:

  • Easy to use
  • Simple interface
  • Various categories between essential, social, promotional, and unwanted messages
  • Easy to create an email
  • High security and encryption ratio
  • Large storage capacity

The method of blocking these annoying messages, as we mentioned, relies on two different methods::

First method: Without any additions or programs

By opening the message box in Gmail, and selecting any message as a model to be blocked along with the sender’s email. After opening the annoying message, click on the drop-down menu on the left side to show several different options, choose from them to block, meaning to prevent this message from appearing in the three main categories (essential – social – promotional). What will happen to this message now or in the future is that you will find such a message in the unwanted messages category, meaning it is not a complete ban, but rather reducing the amount of annoying and unnecessary messages from the three main categories and directing them to the unwanted messages category for easy deletion later. This method is somewhat positive in reducing the number of these messages when browsing emails.

Second method: Add Block Sender

A wonderful add-on available on the Google Chrome browser and on the Firefox browser, allowing us to permanently block the sender’s email of these annoying messages and get rid of them. We will apply this add-on as an example on the Google Chrome browser to test its credibility, and we will download the add-on on the Google Chrome browser. The same method applies to the Firefox browser as well.

After finishing downloading the add-on, the message box of my Gmail will be opened automatically (since I log into my email automatically), and we will also notice a new icon at the top, next to the main icons, which is the Block icon and a message titled “Block that sender or email.”

In the same way as the first method, if we want to block a particular annoying message and block the sender permanently, we open the message and then click on the Block icon to show us a drop-down menu with several options. What matters to us is the first option, which is all emails sent from that email or website, will be permanently blocked, and we will not receive any messages from it in the future. Press it to activate it and block the open message. Of course, we can repeat this with any other annoying or useless messages in the same way, and then delete such messages after finishing blocking all of them and cleaning the message box from them.

After executing the blocking process, a small message will appear at the top indicating that the desired message has been blocked, and if you want to end the blocking process, you can click on Undo as indicated.

In conclusion, we have learned how to block annoying and useless messages on Gmail through two different methods, and see you in upcoming lessons. Thank you.
