Continuing with you the second part of this article in the Top 10 series that we started first about the first part of the article “Top 10 Sweet Anime Movies”, where we will talk this time about other new sweet anime movies.
The Anime Film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King
It is a Japanese fantasy anime film directed by Ayataka Tanemura and produced by Pierrot. Based on the shonen manga series Black Clover by Yuki Tabata, the film was released in Japanese theaters on June 16, 2023. It was also internationally released on Netflix on the same day. The film revolves around the boy Asta, born without magic in a world where magic is everything, and his rival Yuno, the genius wizard chosen by the legendary Grimoire with four-leaf clovers, as they battle together against powerful enemies to prove their strength beyond challenges and strive to achieve their goal of becoming the Wizard King. Conrad Leto, the former predecessor of Julius Novachrono, is respected in the Clover Kingdom. However, he unexpectedly turned against the kingdom and was subsequently exiled by Julius himself.
Now, Conrad Leto has reappeared, wielding the “Imperial Sword” and seeking to destroy the Clover Kingdom and create a new era of equality by destroying everyone and reviving only those he deems worthy of a place in society. He uses the sword’s power to revive three ancient wizard kings from the past: Edward Avalache, Princia Funnybunny, and Jester Garandaros, who share his vision in order to achieve his goal.
The Anime Film Tokyo Godfather
It is a Japanese adventure comedy-tragedy film released in 2003, directed and written by Satoshi Kon. The film focuses more on realism. It won the Excellence Award at the 2003 Japan Media Arts Festival and the Best Anime Film at the 58th Mainichi Film Awards. On one Christmas Eve, we meet three homeless people, an alcoholic middle-aged man named Gin, a woman named Hana, and a runaway teenager named Miyuki, who discover an abandoned place containing a newborn baby while sifting through garbage for gifts.
They find an unnamed baby girl with a note requesting the unknown guardian to take good care of her and a key leading to a bag containing clues about the parents’ identity. The trio sets out to find the parents. As the little girl is nameless, Hana decides to name her Kiyoko, based on the Japanese translation for Silent Night, literally meaning pure child.
Outside a cemetery, the group encounters a high-ranking yakuza boss trapped under his car. The group is informed who this child belongs to and that his daughter will marry the club owner where Kiyoko’s mother used to work, but the wedding is interrupted when a professional assassin attempts to shoot the groom’s parent. He kidnaps both Miyuki and Kiyoko, holding them hostage and taking them to his home, leading to shocking and painful events.
The Anime Film Psycho Pass Providence
It is a cyberpunk anime film for 2023 as part of the Psycho-Pass series. Produced by Production IG and directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani. It serves as an introduction to the third season of Psycho-Pass and Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector. In January 2118, a Foreign Ministry ship guarding Professor Milicia Stronskaya is attacked by a quasi-military group called Peacebreakers, before being intercepted by Shinya Kogami, a SAD investigator in Foreign Affairs. Shinya Kogami is attacked by an SAD agent who underwent brainwashing and fails to stop the Peacebreakers.
In Tokyo, Inspector Akane Tsunemori fights against the proposed solution of the Japanese Ministry of Justice in light of the Sybil System’s attempts to expand overseas. Both Tsunemori and Atsushi Shindo, head of the Immigration Bureau, receive news of the Peacebreaker incident and travel to the wreckage ship. MWPSB chief Josui Kasei orders Tsunemori to leave the investigation to SAD, led by Agent Frederica Hanashiro and SAD Director Yabuki. As the events of the film unfold, the investigation into the incident reveals that the Peacebreakers are the reason for the ship being attacked, as well as uncovering hidden shocking truths.
The Anime Film From Up on Poppy Hill
Among the sweet anime films is a Japanese drama film from 2011 directed by Goro Miyazaki, written by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa, and animated by Studio Ghibli for Nippon Television Network, based on the serialized manga from 1980 of the same name by Chizuru Takahashi and Tetsuro Sayama.
The film takes place in Yokohama, Japan in 1963, telling the story of Umi Matsuzaki, a high school girl living in an inn called “Coquelicot Manor” on Yokohama’s harbor in Japan. Umi Matsuzaki works as a housekeeper while her mother, Ryoko, works as a medical professor in the United States. When Umi Matsuzaki meets Shun Kazama, a member of the school’s newspaper club, they decide to clean the school club, “The Latin Quarter.” However, Tokumaru, the head of the local high school and businessman, plans to demolish the school building for redevelopment for the 1964 Summer Olympics, and Umi Matsuzaki and Shun Kazama, alongside Shiro Mizunuma, must persuade him to reconsider and abandon the demolition idea. The film From Up on Poppy Hill grossed $61.5 million.
The Anime Film Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle
It is a Japanese anime film released in 2024, written and directed by Susumu Mitsunaka and produced by I.G. It is a direct sequel to the popular anime television series. The film has grossed over 10 billion yen in Japan, making it the second highest-grossing Japanese film of 2024 so far.
Karasuno High’s volleyball team qualified for the preliminary rounds of the Harutaka Tournament in Miyagi Prefecture to reach the third round. Karasuno High School successfully passed the preliminary qualifiers for the Miyagi Prefecture’s Harutaka Volleyball Tournament, advancing to the third round by defeating the representative of Hiyugo Prefecture, Inarizaki High School, who was considered one of the tournament favorites.
Their opponent, Nekoma High School, is accustomed to competing with Karasuno, and despite their interactions dwindling at one point, after Hinata and others join the club, they become good friends again and work together in training camps and games. The battle is known as “The Battle at the Trash Heap” because of the school names being “The Crow” and “The Cat.” Their playing styles are completely opposite; Karasuno is extremely offensive, while Nekoma is a defensive team with the motto “connection.” They will finally face their first official match with the current members, engaging in a heated match at the national championship stage.
