TikTok Music Service, Competitor of Spotify, Begins Rolling Out to Some Countries
We already know that ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, wanted to expand online through a new audio streaming service called TikTok Music to compete against Spotify, Deezer, and other existing streaming platforms.
Today, the launch of TikTok Music has been announced, initially reaching Brazil and Indonesia, while, on the other hand, the current other streaming platform, Resso, will be shut down, with September 5th being the day this service closes its doors.
In any case, TikTok Music will be a paid service, although it will offer a free trial month, which will be synchronized with the TikTok account itself.
In addition to discovering and downloading music tracks, listening to them offline, users will also be able to identify songs, as in Shazam, access full versions of the music tracks heard in TikTok videos, and even import playlists they already have on other platforms.
There will be no shortage of social functions as well, allowing users to create collaborative playlists with friends, leave comments, and interact with other users with similar musical interests. TikTok Music will focus on music topics, which have been worked on in recent months to obtain licenses from major record companies.
What users will not find is podcast and radio content, although the doors are not closed, as the branded app introduced last year hints at the possibility of that.
In terms of pricing, the subscription price will be $3.49 monthly in Brazil and $3.25 for iOS users in Indonesia.
Over time, the service will reach other countries, and we will see if the new service lives up to users’ expectations and whether it has the potential to become a major competitor to existing streaming services in the long run or not.
