This Portuguese hacker caused Manchester City to be banned from the Champions League for two years.

Manchester City has been handed a two-year ban from European competitions and fined 30 million euros by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations, according to the governing body of European football.

Since March 2019, UEFA has been investigating Manchester City, whose official response was, following the judge’s ruling, “Manchester City is disappointed, but not surprised by the announcement from UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body adjudicatory chamber today.”
This case was initiated by UEFA and processed by UEFA, and ultimately judged by UEFA.
The investigation began after a hacker leaked information about Manchester City’s involvement in these violations, with over 800 articles published through the Football Leaks portal, revealing scandals behind football operations, including those involving Manchester City.

Before his identity was revealed, the hacker, often working under the alias John, believed to have 70 million documents and 3.4 terabytes of information, including personal emails of many football organizations and individuals. Pinto worked with Der Spiegel to expose many of these secret documents.
In his small home, Pinto found evidence of Manchester City’s fraud and brought it to light. Interestingly, in his own country, Pinto was considered a criminal. Portuguese police described the football leaks as an “organized international crime.”
