In an interview with one of the developers of the first 3D GTA series, Obbe Vermej, who was previously the technical director of Rockstar North, stated that the release date of the game cannot be confirmed or delayed until closer to the supposed date, which is sometime in 2025.
Vermej drew this belief from what happened previously with GTA4, where developers decided to postpone the release date four months before the scheduled release date. Therefore, it seems that Rockstar will not be certain of the 2025 date until around May next year.
The former development team member continues to talk about GTA4, adding that the game was delayed because it was not ready. It could have turned into chaos, so the delay was the right decision at that time.
Of course, GTA6 will be bigger and more complex than its predecessor with significant technological advancements between the two, so it seems that Rockstar is not in a hurry and the game will only be released when they are completely satisfied with its performance. Especially since the game has no competition and will surely achieve significant sales.
When asked about the expected release date, he jokingly said that we may not see the game before 2027. The studio does not make decisions based on Take-Two, which is the one that determines game release dates.
However, it is important to remember that Vermej’s expectations come from his previous experience in the studio and are not reliable information. So we hope he is not right about the release date.
