Currently, explaining the nature of Windows is not logical for most technology users around the world. First of all, we must consider that Windows 1.0 was first released in 1985. Since then, its growth and development have been steady, although initially, as we told you, it did not receive widespread acceptance. This project came from the old MS-DOS and is certainly familiar to many of you. Some of you have worked with this program.
It is likely that the name Bill Gates, one of the company’s founders and main advocates for the operating system, comes to mind. We tell you all this because initially, Gates and his developers did not intend to name this project Windows, a decision that ended up being a great success. Furthermore, it should be noted that although it was launched in 1985, the Windows 1.0 programmers had been working on it since 1981.

Well, at this stage we will tell you that the original name that was circulating in the minds of Bill Gates and his team for the Windows operating system was Interface Manager, as it was. It is not necessary to explain the reason for this name if we consider that the development system was an evolution of the old MS-DOS system, but with a graphical interface.
However, there was strong opposition to this name (Interface Manager). In fact, the opposition came from someone who had no idea about the world of technology, specifically referring to Roland Hanson. This person had recently joined Microsoft and came from the world of cosmetics. In fact, he was the Vice President of Marketing at Neutrogena.
So, once he learned about the name they wanted to give to the new system, Interface Manager, he strongly opposed it. In fact, he met with the developers of the new program trying to convince them that naming it Windows would be much better, and from there they were determined to use the name Windows.
However, none of the developers he met with at that time accepted his suggestion. They remained convinced that Interface Manager was the best choice for the future. Therefore, Roland Hanson himself decided to speak to Bill Gates. All this was in order to finally change the businessman’s mind and have Windows as the name for the operating system, and he succeeded in convincing him.
It may seem a bit strange for many to install an operating system named Interface Manager 10 or Interface Manager 11 on their computers at present if it had this name. Furthermore, perhaps this change of mind by Gates himself had a significant impact on the subsequent development of the operating system in this way, although this is something we will never know for sure.
