The Story of Squadron 42 for the game Star Citizen will be released in 2026.
The release date of Squadron 42, the game derived from Star Citizen, has been set for 2026 during this year’s Citizencon conference, confirming that it will offer 30-40 hours of gameplay.
This announcement came after a demo of Squadron 42 was showcased at Citizencon, presenting the first chapter of the game in a stunning way, including an introduction to a space battle that takes players into the universe. However, the presentation was not without some glitches. There were two game crashes during the showcase, aired live on stage, with the blame placed on a computer malfunction for the second crash, rather than the unstable nature of the game.
After the demo showcase, Chris Roberts took the stage to confirm that the game contains approximately 30-40 hours of gameplay and that the team is “confident” in its 2026 release window. It’s no secret that Cloud Imperium Games tends to miss its scheduled release dates, so whether they can stick to this release date remains to be seen.
It is worth noting that Squadron 42 was announced on October 10, 2012, alongside Star Citizen and the launch of its crowdfunding campaign. According to its official website, Squadron 42 and Star Citizen have raised a total of $729 million dollars as of writing this.
