The special edition of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is thinner yet more powerful.
Samsung has just pulled a surprise out of its box by making an elegant design change to its flagship foldable phone. Earlier today, the company unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in its local market.
The latest version of Samsung makes some key upgrades in design and camera department. Firstly, Samsung has reduced the thickness by 1.5mm compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, the weight has only decreased by three grams.
The display size has increased very slightly, with the resolution numbers also going up, but there’s nothing too exciting here. The cover screen size is now 6.48 inches (up from 6.3 inches), while the foldable inner panel is around 8 inches, compared to the 7.6-inch screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Another noticeable change is the color chemistry. The special edition comes in only one “Shadow Black” variant. However, this model has been treated with an eye-catching glass back update which now features thin lines running across it, inspired by pinstripe patterns on suits.
Interestingly, Samsung managed to reduce the form factor of its latest foldable phones without reducing the battery size. The battery capacity matches that of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 at 4400mAh, which is impressive.
The other significant change in the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is the new camera sensor. Samsung has equipped it with a 200-megapixel main camera on the back, adding a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera to its existing foldable phones.
The rest of the camera units remain the same. We get a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom output.
The camera located above the front screen features a 10-megapixel sensor, while the unit below the cover screen outputs shots at 4 megapixels.
The silicon in question is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform for the Galaxy device, alongside 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has 12GB of internal memory.
Samsung also claims to have used armor aluminum for the frame and retained dust and water resistance at an IP48 level in its new foldable offerings.
The required price for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is set at 27,89,600 Korean Won, which roughly translates to $2,024 based on current conversion rates. On the other hand, the starting price for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is $1900 in the United States.
The latest Samsung products will be available for sale starting from October 24 in Korea. However, the company has not yet revealed any details about the phone’s arrival in international markets, especially in the Western regions.
