The Saudi Esports Federation Launches Glossary of Esports Terminology in Arabic Language

The Saudi Arabian Electronic Sports Federation has announced the launch of a glossary of electronic sports terminology in Arabic, in collaboration with the King Salman World Arabic Language Complex. This glossary aims to meet the needs of enthusiasts and those interested in games and electronic sports, enhancing their interaction with this growing sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It serves as a reliable source that reflects linguistic developments and emphasizes the role of the Arabic language in documenting modern terms in the world of electronic sports.

This initiative is part of the strategic objectives of the Federation, aligning with the targets of the Human Capacities Development Program, which is a program under the Saudi Vision 2030. This innovative initiative highlights the importance of keeping pace with linguistic evolution and promoting the culture of electronic games in Saudi society.

Commenting on this, Turki Al-Fawzan, CEO of the Saudi Arabian Electronic Sports Federation, said:

“The launch of the glossary of electronic sports terminology is a significant strategic step towards developing this vital sector in the Kingdom. We recognize the importance of enhancing linguistic awareness in building a generation of professionals capable of interacting and competing on the global stage proudly using their mother tongue. The importance of this glossary lies in clarifying concepts and contributing to establishing an information-rich environment for those interested in this field, solidifying the Kingdom’s position as a leading center in the field of electronic sports.”

The glossary contains more than 505 terms in various fields, including football, combat sports, and adventures. Its goal is to document these terms and introduce them in Arabic, in addition to providing accurate and comprehensive definitions for many of the vocabulary used in this field.

Through this initiative, the Saudi Arabian Electronic Sports Federation aims to enhance professionalism and linguistic empowerment in tournaments and electronic games, contributing to raising awareness of the importance of using the Arabic language in this growing sector. This step reflects the Federation’s commitment to providing a comprehensive electronic sports environment, supporting participants, and inspiring the new generation of players and creators in the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia is one of the largest markets in the region for electronic sports, as this sector includes more than 23.5 million players, equivalent to about 67% of the total population. Women represent 42% of game enthusiasts, indicating the diversity and wide appeal of this sector across different segments of society. The gaming market in the Kingdom is approximately $1 billion, demonstrating the incredible potential in this sector. Internet penetration in the Kingdom reaches about 90%, as the main lifeline of the gaming and electronic sports sector.

Citizens under the age of 30 make up about 70% of the total population in the Kingdom. This segment significantly contributes to driving innovation and digital transformation in the country, opening up broad horizons for the development of technological and creative sectors, including the flourishing sector of games and electronic sports.
