The Saudi Esports Federation Launches a Glossary in Arabic Language

The Saudi Arabian Esports Federation announced the launch of a glossary of esports terminology in Arabic, in collaboration with the King Salman World Arabic Language Complex, on Sunday evening.
This glossary aims to meet the needs of enthusiasts and those interested in games and esports, and enhance their interaction with this growing sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It serves as a reliable source that embodies linguistic developments and emphasizes the role of the Arabic language in documenting modern terms in the world of esports.
This initiative is part of the strategic objectives of the federation, aligning with the targets of the Human Capabilities Development Program, one of the programs of Saudi Vision 2030. The innovative initiative highlights the importance of keeping pace with linguistic development and promoting esports culture in Saudi society.
In response to this, Turki Al-Fozan, the CEO of the Saudi Arabian Esports Federation, said:
“The launch of the glossary of esports terminology is a strategic milestone in developing this vital sector in the Kingdom. We recognize the importance of enhancing linguistic awareness in building a generation of professionals capable of interacting and competing on the global stage proudly using their native language. The significance of this glossary lies in clarifying concepts and contributing to creating an information-rich environment for those interested in this field, solidifying the Kingdom’s position as a leading center in the world of esports.”
The glossary contains over 505 terms in various fields, including football, combat sports, and adventures. Through this initiative, the Saudi Arabian Esports Federation seeks to enhance professionalism and linguistic empowerment in tournaments and esports, contributing to increasing awareness of the importance of using the Arabic language in this growing sector. Women represent 42% of game enthusiasts, reflecting the diversity and wide appeal of this sector across various segments of society. The gaming market in the Kingdom is about $1 billion, showcasing the remarkable potential in this sector. Internet penetration in the Kingdom is around 90%, serving as the main lifeline for the gaming and esports sector.
Citizens under the age of 30 make up about 70% of the total population in the Kingdom. This demographic significantly contributes to driving innovation and digital transformation in the country, opening up wide opportunities for developing technological and creative sectors, including the thriving esports and gaming sector.
