Google is rumored to make an interesting change to the Pixel 9a phone next year. The change will bring something from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, according to a new report from Android Headlines.
According to the report, the Pixel 9a phone will feature a 48-megapixel sensor instead of the 64-megapixel primary sensor found in the Pixel 7a and Pixel 8a. This is likely to be the one found in the second generation of Google’s foldable Pixel phone. The report states that while the Pixel 9a phone will have a lower resolution sensor, the larger pixel units used should provide better-looking images.
The same report also suggests that the Pixel 9a phone is expected to retain a high-resolution 13-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel front sensor like its predecessor.
The report states: “While the ultra-wide and front cameras stick to the same sensors as last year, the big upgrade here is in the main camera. Despite the lower sensor resolution, it should provide better-looking images thanks to the larger pixel size used.”
As we mentioned earlier, the rear camera bar of the Pixel 9a device is expected to undergo a redesign. Instead of the prominent camera island unit seen in previous models, the Pixel 9a phone will have a dual camera system that aligns with the back of the phone. Although there may be a small ring around the camera unit that protrudes slightly, it should not be as noticeable as the camera bar that has become synonymous with Pixel devices.
When launched next year, the Pixel 9a may be the last Pixel device to use a Samsung processor. Starting with the Pixel 10 series in 2025, Google plans to introduce fully customized chips developed by TSMC. The current Pixel 9 series phones include Google Tensor G3 chips manufactured by the company that makes the Galaxy S series.
The Pixel 8a was released in May of this year, while the Pixel 7a arrived in May 2023. Unless there is a change in the timeline, we can likely expect Google to launch the Pixel 9a phone in the same timeframe next year.
