The fastest way to control another computer from your PC in Windows 10 without software
At some point, someone else may need your help remotely with solving a computer problem or explaining how to use a specific program, or connecting to a client’s device if you work in maintenance to detect and fix issues… or for any other purpose. What matters is that in the end, you will have to connect to this device and access it as if you were sitting in front of it in order to solve the problem or demonstrate something in a better way.
As we know, there are many external software programs that can be used to accomplish this task, and it can also be done without software by controlling another computer through your device after several steps using any version of Windows. However, if both devices are running Windows 10, there is a new and fast method that does not require software to connect from your computer to another device and control it easily. Let’s explore this in this topic.
By using the “Quick Assist” application that is newly integrated with Windows 10, I am sure that many users are unaware of it, perhaps because it is hidden within the “Accessibility Tools” in the system. This application is specifically designed to help users get help from another person to solve their system problems by allowing the other person to access the computer. But in a few steps, which is why I say it is the fastest way.
Alright, if you are wondering how to access the tool, you can search for “Quick Assist” through the search field in the taskbar or open the Start menu, then after finding the Windows Accessories folder in the apps column, you will find the Quick Assist app in it and you can easily run it. If you do not find it, you will need to upgrade to the annual update of Windows 10.
After running the tool, you will see two options: Get assistance, which the person needing help will click on, and Give assistance, which the person offering help will click on. So, if you want to assist someone, after clicking on Give assistance, you will be asked to enter your Microsoft account to use the tool. You can enter your account details and then click on Sign in, or if you do not have a Microsoft account, you can create a new one by clicking on Create one.
After that, you will receive a Security code that you need to share or send with the person who needs assistance. This code is valid for only 10 minutes, after which a new code will be generated. After sending the code to the other person, let’s see what needs to be done.
The other person will also need to run the Quick Assist application on their computer, which is why I mentioned at the beginning that the method only works on devices running Windows 10. So, after the person who needs help runs the application, they will click on Get Assistance, and then they will be asked to enter the Security code they received from the person offering help before the 10-minute code expiration. After entering the code, click on Submit.
After clicking on “Submit” to allow the assistant to access your computer, click on Allow to share your computer screen remotely. After clicking Allow, the system may take a few minutes to connect the computers, so you need to be patient until the assistant can access your computer.
Once the assistant enters your computer, they will see your desktop on the Quick Assist application as if they were sitting in front of it. They have full control over the computer, such as installing programs, changing settings, etc. You can also watch what the assistant does on your computer screen.
The assistant can also use the tools provided on the Quick Assist window after connecting, where they can draw on the screen, resize windows, open Task Manager, restart the computer remotely, and more. After solving the problem and wanting to exit your computer, they will click on End to stop the Quick Assist application.
