There is a method on WhatsApp that relies on QR codes to transfer conversations from an old mobile phone to a new one quickly and securely.
The company explained that users who switch to another mobile phone with the same operating system will be able to transfer WhatsApp data using a local Wi-Fi connection.
To transfer the chat history, both devices must be turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Then, open the WhatsApp application on the old phone and go to Settings > Chats > Chat transfer. At the end of this step, a QR code will be displayed.
Now, on the new mobile phone, scan the QR code to complete the transfer process.
So far, WhatsApp has relied on cloud backups to transfer data from one device to another running the same operating system, whether iOS or Android.
This is the first time the company has introduced a local transfer method for migrating chats.
