The creator of Super Smash Bros has started working on his next game set to release in 2022

The creator of the Super Smash Bros and Kirby game series began production on his next game project in 2022. This is what Masahiro Sakurai told us in the latest episode of his YouTube series “Creating Games,” which was published on Tuesday and can be watched below.
In it, he said:
“It was around July 2021.” “I was busy working on the Downloadable Content (DLC) for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. To be precise, I was putting together the ‘Mr. Sakurai Presents: Kazuya’ video. Sora was also in development, of course. And by ‘Sora,’ I mean the fighter, not that company you may have heard of.”
“While working on those tasks, I received a request to write a game proposal, and I finished it at lightning speed. I apologize for not being able to share more about this project, but assuming we are able to achieve it, it will be announced sooner or later.”
And he continued:
“Then, in late October 2021… Sora was released, and I had fulfilled my work commitments one way or another.” “There was, of course, the new game proposal I had written. I had received approval to proceed with production, but it would take some time to assemble the right team. The targeted timeline was April 2022. Until then, I had to wait.”
With this gap in his schedule, Sakurai decided to create his YouTube channel.
“How can I transfer the knowledge I have gained over the years to as many people as possible? I have been thinking about that for a long time.” “And in the end, I decided to create this channel – a permanent archive of information for people to access whenever they want.”
Sakurai said that he ended up planning the entire path of his YouTube channel in the months leading up to the start of production on his next game, writing all 260 episodes except for the final episode today.
“In other words, the final number and content of all these videos had already been decided since the beginning of the channel. Everything has been planned from start to finish. This way, I can say that the channel will end sometime this year, and all the clips preceding this video were recorded over two and a half years ago.”
“By August 2022, when the channel was launched, the game project I mentioned had already begun production, so I had to work on both projects simultaneously as I prepared for it.”
Sakurai said that his usual day involved waking up at 8 AM and working primarily on his game development project until 6:30 PM. Then he would take a break for dinner before starting work on his YouTube channel at 8 PM. He tries to finish that before midnight, giving him some time to play games or exercise before heading to bed between 1 AM and 2 AM.
