The best way to lock Google Chrome with a password on the computer

Even if your Windows system is password protected, it is important to lock your web browser with a password as well. This is because the browser stores a large amount of information about you, including browsing history, saved passwords, and logged-in accounts. This becomes even more crucial if you use Google Chrome for internet browsing, as it is directly connected to your Google account. Leaving it unprotected poses a significant risk as anyone who gains access to your computer can potentially access your data and email messages. Luckily, we have found an effective and reliable way to lock Google Chrome with a password to prevent any unauthorized access to your data. Let’s explore how.
Locking Google Chrome with a password can be done in various ways, but the most common method found online is to use browser extensions. However, in our experience, this method is not very effective as the protection can be easily bypassed. Therefore, in our guide today, we rely on a program called My Lockbox, which provides strong protection by locking any program on your computer with a password and preventing it from running without entering this password. We believe it is suitable for those who want to lock Google Chrome and secure it, and we can recommend it without hesitation after extensive testing.
The program My Lockbox can be downloaded from the official website for free, but there is also a paid version that you can try for additional features. Nevertheless, the following steps to lock Chrome with a password can be done on the free version without any issues.

Once you run the My Lockbox program for the first time on your device, a window will appear asking you to set a password to protect the browser. Write a strong password and confirm it, and don’t forget to enter your email address to recover the password in case you forget it. If you leave the email address field blank, you won’t be able to recover your password if forgotten, and therefore won’t be able to run Google Chrome. So, it is advisable not to underestimate this step.
After setting the password, you will be asked to specify the folder you want to protect. Since we are using My Lockbox to lock Google Chrome with a password, you need to select the folder containing the Chrome executable files, so that you can’t open the browser without entering the password, even if you try to open Chrome from the Start menu or desktop icon. Click on Browse to open a new window where you must navigate to the path [C:\Program Files (x86)\Google] and you will find another folder named “Chrome” in the Google folder. Select it and then press OK.
Once you have selected the Chrome folder, the My Lockbox control interface will appear, which looks very simple. If you want to lock the folder (meaning Google Chrome) you just specified, all you have to do is click on the Lock button, and then the folder will disappear and the browser will be protected by My Lockbox. Also note that you can click on the Advanced button on the control interface to adjust some settings to suit your preferences. For example, through the Notifications section, you can enable the alert feature when locking/unlocking the protection, changing the password, or automatically locking the browser after a specified number of minutes without interaction. Or from the Hotkeys tab, you can set a keyboard shortcut to enable or disable protection. Adjust any of these settings and then press Save to confirm the changes.
In the end, if you try to run Google Chrome in any way, you will see an access denied message as shown in the image above. To regain access to the program and run it again, you need to open the My Lockbox control interface through the desktop shortcut or Start menu, enter the password, and click the “Unlock” button to unlock it immediately. Therefore, every time you want to enable or disable the protection, you need to first open the control interface, or as mentioned, you can set a keyboard shortcut from the Hotkeys window to make the process faster.
