Take-Two Company: “All Rockstar Studio Activities Shifted to GTA Online Mode”
After Take-Two Interactive presented its financial report, Mr. Strauss Zelnick spoke to GamesIndustry.biz about the future of the various development teams, starting from Rockstar and going through 2K Games. Mr. Strauss Zelnick confirmed that this year’s financial results were largely due to the success of GTA Online in the GTA V release.
As it led the company to maintain significant revenues, as well as the same for various 2K Games titles that met the company’s expectations. However, for the expectations for 2019, Mr. Strauss Zelnick confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be the main focus for the company in order to achieve a net profit of $2.5 billion. He commented on this:
“I know it’s a huge number, but not just the sales of Red Dead Redemption 2, but the online gameplay in Red Dead Redemption Online, we trust will bring us a significant portion of this amount.”
The statement confirms that Take-Two Interactive is counting on this mode, which we don’t know how the audience will respond to, especially since Red Dead Redemption 2 is set in an old time period and the game’s audience is not the same as GTA V’s audience, so the number will be limited.
Regarding the financial future of both 2K Games and Rockstar Games, Mr. Strauss Zelnick stated:
“We are looking at everything, with Mr. David, head of 2K Games, developing a five-year business strategy, while we know how Rockstar manages things, all of Rockstar’s current activities have shifted to GTA Online mode.”
