T Phone: The First Smartphone with Artificial Intelligence Technology that Does Not Require Installing Apps on it
We know that artificial intelligence will change many things. But we haven’t stopped believing that it can also kill all mobile device applications. This is the suggestion of T Phone, a mobile phone using artificial intelligence technology owned by Deutsche Telekom, which does not use applications.
If we stop to think about how mobile applications work, they are actually somewhat similar to artificial intelligence. We ask one of the applications to perform certain tasks, such as receiving messages, taking a photo, or purchasing a product, and the application completes these tasks. It’s like artificial intelligence, but for a very specific, limited number of tasks, always done in the same way.
What if we trained generative artificial intelligence to do the same tasks that the most commonly used applications on mobile phones do? The result is a smart phone equipped with artificial intelligence and without applications. This is what German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom is proposing.

Deutsche Telekom has partnered with Qualcomm and Brain.ai, a company specializing in creating AI-based interactive interfaces, to present two initial models of T Phone mobile phones at MWC 2024 in Barcelona, which will start on February 26.
The first is a mobile phone where artificial intelligence will be in the cloud. And the second will be a premium mobile phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 3 processor, where artificial intelligence will work in local mode, so everything will be much faster, even though both will have the same functions.
T Phone works using voice or text commands. As mentioned, you don’t need to install any applications: artificial intelligence takes care of everything.
All you have to do is say things like “Buy a 5GB flash drive from Amazon,” or “Show me my WhatsApp messages,” or “I want to watch the latest cooking video from the YouTube channel,” or “Edit this photo to make it more beautiful.”
As Deutsche Telekom explained in the press release, this technology is not tied to a specific brand or model of mobile phone. It can be implemented in any existing smartphone.
John Abrahamsen, Head of Product at Deutsche Telekom, is convinced: “Artificial intelligence and Large Language Models (LLM) will soon become an integral part of mobile devices. Our vision is a phone without apps and a real daily companion that meets needs and simplifies digital life.
T Phone, the first mobile phone equipped with artificial intelligence and does not require applications, will be presented in a few days at MWC 2024 in Barcelona. There we can provide you with more information about it.
