Sony reopens discussion on PlayStation 4 compatibility with MP3 format
Do you remember when Sony published a list of answers to players’ inquiries regarding the PlayStation 4 console? One of the answers included something about the device’s compatibility with Audio discs and MP3 format. The company’s response was clear and caused some resentment among those who had pre-ordered the device, as if Sony wanted to force everyone to subscribe to Music Unlimited service. Mr. Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony Worldwide Studios) did not delay in responding to the commotion caused by this issue through an interview with Giant Bombs, where he had the opportunity to address the matter. He expressed surprise at recent developments and even received threats from players to cancel their orders for the device. It was necessary to make a statement about this matter and it was done. Shuhei Yoshida explicitly confirmed the lack of compatibility between Audio CDs and MP3 on the PlayStation 4, stating that it is not a permanent discontinuation but a strategic decision to prioritize other important features. The feature will return soon, and he reassured everyone about it. He also added that Sony and the development team are still working on several features that will be introduced sequentially and will surely please the players. Best regards.
