Sony hints at the number of units that will be available with the launch of the PS5, will it be enough for everyone?
Sony hints at the number of units that will be available at the launch of the PS5
In the context of monitoring the statements of Mr. Jim Ryan, President of the PlayStation division at Sony, in his interview with GameIndustry website, the man addressed a range of issues that have been on the minds of the public recently, including the possibility of launching the upcoming PlayStation 5 on schedule, as well as the company’s plans to introduce games and promising strategies to attract users.
However, in this interview, Mr. Jim Ryan talked about a very important point that has recently been a topic of discussion among the public, which is how Sony will deal with the PlayStation 4 after this period. Mr. Jim Ryan acknowledged that users on the PlayStation 4 platform are always a priority for the company, and support for the platform will continue for more years, especially as it currently has over 100 million active users.
Regarding this, the speaker confirmed that a number of these users will transition to the PlayStation 5 and they expect approximately 15 to 25 million users to transition to the next platform by the end of this year. From this point, we can infer the total number of units that Sony intends to launch for the device by the end of the year. Is it reasonable to have 25 million units available?
Certainly not, but we believe that the total number will be around 10 to 15 million units, gradually increasing from March 2021 onwards. This is the first indication from Sony on this matter. Mr. Jim Ryan continued his talk by stating that around 75 million users will continue with the current PlayStation 4, wanting to continue improving the user experience beyond the exclusive titles.
Since these exclusive titles will only be available on the PlayStation 5 after its launch, Sony wants to leverage all the technological capabilities that come with the device, as previously mentioned by Mr. Jim Ryan. Of course, there are challenges the company faces in providing the largest possible number of units, hoping that the Arab market will have a share of them and that all users will get their hands on their copy of the upcoming PlayStation 5. Best regards.
