Some tricks you may not know about in the Facebook app on Android

Facebook’s official app is one of the most downloaded apps on Android phones, surpassing billions of users on the Google Play store. No doubt, this is a huge number, indicating that a large segment of Android users already have the official Facebook app. If you’re already using it, you may have noticed that the app has some features not available on the official website. In this article, I will review some tricks that you should know and use if you are already using the main Facebook app on Android. It’s worth noting that the main Facebook app differs from Facebook Lite, which is also an official app. Here, we are referring to the blue icon Facebook app!

1- Create shortcuts for your pages

This feature is initially available only for page administrators, where you can create a shortcut for the pages you manage to access them quickly with a single tap from the phone’s home screen. This is useful instead of entering the app, then going to the pages section, and then entering your page. To do this after opening the page on the app, press the menu button from the top right corner, then scroll down and click on Create Shortcut button. This will add a shortcut icon for the page on the home screen for quick access as shown in the image above.

2- Disable irrelevant notifications

If you receive a lot of annoying notifications on the Facebook app that do not interest you, such as photo tags, event invitations, group additions, app requests, etc., you can easily prevent receiving notifications of this type through the notification settings in the Facebook app. After opening the app and going to the options menu, scroll down and click on the App Settings, then Notifications. Here, you can manage all types of notifications and disable or enable what interests you, or disable all using the toggle button at the top.

3- Download videos

Certainly, while browsing Facebook posts, you may have seen a unique video content that you want to save on your phone to watch later offline or repost it independently on your page. However, you are unable to download the video because the app does not allow you to do so. Nevertheless, you still have the opportunity to download Facebook videos without the need for external apps. All you have to do is follow the steps outlined in this article Download a video from the Facebook app on Android without using external apps.

4- Add background to posts

We are sure that a large number of users are aware of this feature, especially since we have also shared a post on the Alm Computer page to inform you about this new feature that will enhance the way posts are displayed on the Facebook app. However, this does not prevent us from adding it to the list of tricks. Perhaps there are those who are not familiar with it. Through this feature introduced in the latest update of the Facebook app, you can add a colorful and distinctive background to text posts to appear in a way that catches the attention of viewers instead of the white background. To change it, all you have to do after writing a new post is to click on the color palette button that will appear to choose the suitable background to appear as shown in the image.

5- View the newest posts

The News Feed or the main page of the Facebook app, where all posts are displayed, does not show the newest posts. Most of what is displayed is old posts that you have not seen previously from liked pages or friends. However, if you want to browse the newest posts directly on the Facebook app, you can go to the Most Recent page, where the latest posts that have been published and new pages are displayed immediately, and you won’t find old posts there.

6- Search for nearby entertainment places

Nearby Places is a feature in the Facebook app that you can use when you are in a new place or area and want to search for entertainment places like restaurants, shopping places, or the nearest cafe. This feature meets what you want by determining your current location through GPS to then select the places you want to search for, providing you with a list of the nearest places along with user ratings, photos if available, and other information. This will be very useful for travelers.

7- Report fake news

Since Facebook is the largest online community, it is clear that many users and pages publish fake news and rumors. Therefore, Facebook recently began taking new measures to stop the spread of these fake posts and combat fake news by adding a new option within the post reporting options. This allows viewers to report a post as containing fake or false content for Facebook to review and verify the report. If proven to be false content, a mark or notification will be added below the post for anyone viewing it, indicating that the post is fake.
To do this, all you have to do is click on the downward arrow on the post, then select Report post from the notification menu within the app to display a dropdown menu, choose the second option Turn off notifications. This way, you will not receive this type of notifications again.
