Solving the Issue of Unable to Update Android System WebView

Android WebView is a pre-installed application on Android phones that helps third-party apps display content within the app browser. Therefore, it is important to keep it updated. However, some users have had trouble updating it, experiencing issues like the update process getting stuck for a long time or the app reappearing in the update list even after updating. But don’t worry, in this article, we will share a series of steps and solutions to help you solve this problem.

1. Restart Your Phone

If the WebView update is stuck, start by restarting your phone and trying again.

2. Give it Some Time

Again, if you’re trying to update WebView, wait for about 10 to 15 minutes. The issue might just be slow internet speed common in most Arab countries.

3. Turn Off Bluetooth

As strange as it sounds, there’s no harm in turning off Bluetooth as you may have left it on. Turn it off and try updating the app again.

4. Uninstall Android WebView Updates

As mentioned earlier, Android WebView comes pre-installed on Android devices, so you can’t completely uninstall it. However, you can uninstall updates and revert to the original factory version, which will remove any stuck updates and make it easier to update the app again.
First, open the Play Store app, search for Android System WebView, open it, press Uninstall, wait for the process to complete, and then press Update.

5. Clear Play Store Cache and Data

Among practical solutions to most Google Play Store issues is clearing the cache and data.
To clear the Play Store cache and data, open Settings, go to Apps, find Google Play Store, press on it, go to Storage, press Clear cache, then Clear storage or Clear data depending on your phone. Finally, restart your phone and try updating the app again.

6. Clear Android WebView Cache and Data

Follow the same steps as before, but this time for Android WebView. Go to Settings, Apps, find WebView, and press Clear data and storage.

7. Uninstall Google Play Store Updates

Returning to the phone settings, go to Apps, find Google Play Store, press on it, tap the three dots in the top corner, and press Uninstall updates.
Restart your phone, wait for new Play Store updates to be installed, and try updating WebView again.

If none of the above solutions work, consider downloading the app from external sources. But be cautious of unknown app stores and websites as they may contain fake and harmful apps.
