Several antivirus programs now consider uTorrent and BitTorrent a security threat. Why?

Bittorrent and uTorrent are considered among the best software and clients for downloading torrents, or at least among the most popular. Now, both are involved in a controversy that may make them lose some of their users. Some antivirus programs, including Microsoft Windows Defender, have started identifying these two programs as security threats, in both their desktop and web versions. It is evident that everything is linked to the potential risks of the ads shown by these programs.

On July 23, 2018, the purchase of BitTorrent by TRON was confirmed, a blockchain platform that claims to be a global entertainment system for digital content. Since then, programs that rely on this company, like uTorrent and BitTorrent, have started moving towards the world of Blockchain and cryptocurrencies, even though users of these programs are primarily interested in their original task of downloading torrent files from the internet. However, not all of these different security solutions that characterized these applications as threats have been liked. Now, history is repeating itself, and we may face a somewhat serious structural problem for these clients. Some users have started confirming program issues caused by the antivirus programs they installed.
In fact, the latest version of uTorrent has been flagged as a security threat by nine antivirus programs in VirusTotal. This includes Microsoft Windows Defender, which classifies the program as a severe threat.
However, this is not only linked to uTorrent but also happens with the BitTorrent program. In this case, the VirusTotal antivirus tool considers it a security threat.
