Save resources on your device by disabling or removing the Android app player on Windows 11.

One of the most important features of Windows 11 is the ability to run Android apps, but it can be a burden on device resources as it consumes around 4 GB of RAM during operation. If you want to disable or delete it to save those resources, especially on weaker computers, you can do so easily.

There is no option in the settings to enable or disable running Android apps, so we will either turn off the Windows Subsystem for Android platform responsible for running Android apps on Windows 11, or we will completely remove the platform from the system if you do not intend to use the feature again.

Temporarily Disable Running Android Apps on Windows 11

Press the Win + S keys together and in the search bar type “WSA”, then press Open to open the Windows Subsystem for Android settings interface. In the window that appears, select “System” from the side menu, then scroll down until you find the option “Turn off Windows Subsystem for Android” and press “Turn off” and wait for Windows to disable all processes related to the feature.

This will prevent the feature from running in the background until you launch an Android app from the apps you have installed on your device.

Permanently Remove Running Android Apps Feature on Windows 11

This can be done by removing the Windows Subsystem for Android platform along with all installed Android apps and any other files related to the feature. Through the Windows Settings, navigate to the “Apps” section in the side menu and there click on “Apps & features” and from there scroll down until you find the “Windows Subsystem for Android” app, then press the menu button (…) next to the name and click “Uninstall” and confirm by clicking “Uninstall” again.

The installed Android apps, as well as the Amazon Appstore, will disappear and you will not be able to run Android apps on Windows 11 unless you use an external emulator.
