Rumor: Sales of Prince of Persia The Lost Crown did not exceed one million copies

Despite being one of the most critically acclaimed games this year, Prince of Persia The Lost Crown failed to meet Ubisoft’s sales expectations.

While Ubisoft has not officially disclosed the game’s sales numbers yet, Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming claimed in a report that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has only sold approximately one million copies so far since its release in January.

Henderson claims that internally, Ubisoft expected the game to sell “millions of copies in a relatively short period of time,” at a pace similar to other major metroidvania games, but the shock was that this game, despite critical acclaim and player admiration, failed to meet the company’s expectations.

Shortly after its release, reports indicated that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown had only sold 300,000 copies in the first two weeks, despite widespread critical acclaim.

Recently, we heard that Ubisoft has laid off the entire Prince of Persia The Lost Crown team, after refusing to develop a sequel. While Ubisoft has not denied these reports, they stated that they have reassigned members of the game development team to several different projects, including a remake of the Rayman game.
