Rumor: Classic God of War Games Could Come to PS Plus Premium
A new discovery may hint that the God of War games from the Greek era could make their way into the classic games catalog in PlayStation Plus Premium through emulation. Most of the old parts of the leading God of War series from Sony can only be played via cloud streaming on PS Plus Premium, but as the title approaches its 20th anniversary next year, this may change.
The God of War series began in 2005 with a game on PS2, which quickly became a huge success, selling over 4.6 million copies (by 2012). The second part, God of War 2, was released in 2007 and also achieved similar levels of critical and commercial acclaim. From there, the title reached its peak with several new parts on PSP and PS3, including God of War 3, Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta, and Ascension. Apart from the redesigned version of God of War 3, none of these games can be played on PS5, which is frustrating for God of War fans.
However, a new discovery for PS Plus Premium suggests that the original emulation of the old God of War games may be in development. A picture of Kratos from the Greek-era God of War games was recently spotted as a main image for the PS2 Classics section in PS Plus Premium, despite these titles not being in the catalog. This may indicate that Sony is working on adding classic God of War games to PS Plus Premium originally, just in time for the series’ 20th anniversary in 2025. Interestingly, a recent rumor suggested that these God of War games will be remastered with enhanced versions.
Sony has increased its efforts to bring PS2 games to PS4 and PS5 recently, especially after the appearance of the new PS2 emulator for the classic PS Plus Premium catalog earlier this year. Therefore, it seems logical that Sony aims to liberate the classic God of War games from the restrictions of cloud streaming and make them playable natively on modern devices. God of War is one of the company’s most acclaimed titles, so players are sure to love the option to play the old games on PS4 and PS5.
Just like the recent re-release of Siren on PS Plus Premium, players can expect features such as awards, rewind, save states, video filters, and enhanced presentation if the classic God of War games arrive in the subscription service.
