Restricting Mouse Pointer Movement in a Specific Area of the Screen or a Specific Program
If you allow your child or someone else to use your computer and want to maintain your privacy, disabling certain areas of the screen and controlling within a specific area can prevent any unauthorized actions. Windows does not provide this feature, so we will use a simple program to disable the computer screen entirely or specific areas only.
Lock Cursor Tools program is free and lightweight, works on all Windows versions, and restricts the mouse cursor within a specified area on the screen or within a specific program window. Download the program from the link below the post and after installing it, right-click on the program’s icon on the desktop and select Properties. In the window, go to the Compatibility section and click on the Change high DPI settings button. Then activate the Override high DPI scaling behavior option and select Application, then press Ok as shown in the image, to make the program efficient on any screen resolution and correctly define areas on the screen.
Run the program, and its small icon will appear next to the clock. Right-click on it to show the options as follows:
– Shortcuts options to specify keyboard shortcuts to enable or disable cursor restriction from the Lock / Unlock Cursor checkbox. And from the Settings option, you can select User-defined to restrict the mouse within a specific area, Monitor X to restrict the mouse within a single display screen or specific areas within each screen individually, or Windows application to restrict the mouse within a specific installed program.
– Select area and Lock option to specify the area where you want to restrict mouse cursor movement. Here, you can left-click and drag to select the area you want, or select the area of a specific program window.
The program will automatically activate after selecting the area, which will act as the screen frame. It displays a bar indicating the frame boundaries, and shows an unlock icon when hovering the mouse cursor to the corner or the upper left corner.
You can hide it through the settings, and the only way to unlock the cursor restriction is through keyboard shortcuts. This method will prevent many errors when someone else is using the computer and allow you to focus more while working on a specific program.
