Resignation of Google’s Operations Chief in the Middle East
Matt Britten, Google’s Chief Operating Officer in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, has announced his resignation after a nearly twenty-year career. During this time, he led the tech giant to tremendous success, contributing to its market value reaching trillions of dollars.
Britten is set to leave his position early next year amid new strategic shifts at Google, focusing primarily on developing artificial intelligence and addressing global regulatory challenges.
He will continue working with Google until his successor is chosen, and then take some time to consider other ways he can make additional contributions to the company, according to sources.
This resignation comes at a critical time as Google continues to face legal challenges related to antitrust. At the same time, the artificial intelligence division, led by Demis Hassabis, has achieved notable accomplishments, including winning a Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Britten joined Google in 2007 as Chief Operating Officer in the UK and Ireland before advancing to multiple leadership positions. In 2014, Britten assumed the role of President of Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, making him one of the company’s prominent figures in those markets.
Prior to joining Google, Britten worked as a consultant at McKinsey, and served as the Commercial Director at Trinity Mirror Media, now known as Reach PLC.
