Red Dead Redemption Almost Became an Xbox 360 Exclusive over PS3!
The game Red Dead Redemption was one of the biggest successes on PS3 and Xbox 360 ever, and PS3 players almost missed out, as the game developer had not initially planned to release a version for the PS3 platform.
Many video game enthusiasts did not expect Red Dead Redemption, released in 2010, to have such a significant impact and achieve such a huge success, with sales of over 20 million copies. Now, it is being released on PC with enhanced graphics to continue its successful journey.
Technical experts at Digital Foundry revealed interesting details about the game’s history in their weekly podcast, coinciding with the recent announcement of a PC version of Red Dead Redemption. It is said that a Rockstar Games developer directly contacted the editorial team shortly after Digital Foundry highlighted the technical features of the Xbox 360 version in a special presentation.
According to the developer, the visual graphical features of the Xbox 360 version were due to Red Dead Redemption originally being planned as an exclusive title for Microsoft’s consoles, with no initial plans to release a version for the PS3. However, after some time, the studio decided to release a version for the PlayStation 3, resulting in the game looking better than before and significant improvements over the Xbox 360 version.
In the summer of 2023, Take-Two Interactive officially announced the re-release of the game on PS4 and Switch, and after a wait of almost 14 years, the release of Red Dead Redemption for PC was confirmed just this month.
