Phantom Blade Zero Developer: China Accounts for 40% of Western and Japanese Game Sales.

Both China and Korea have been showing good performance in the gaming industry recently after a noticeable absence of AAA games for years. Therefore, we may witness a sudden shift in their position in the future. However, the art director of the game Phantom Blade Zero recently revealed that China has been interested in video games long before the release of Black Myth: Wukong.

This title only managed to ignite the spark, but even before that, 30-40% of sales of Western and Japanese games were coming from China. Zhang, the art director of Phantom Blade Zero, revealed in an interview with 4Gamer that even before the game Black Myth: Wukong, China was playing a significant role in the gaming industry. Of course, this game played a major role, but according to Zhang, China had already accounted for about 40% of sales of Western and Japanese games, and continued:

Even before the release of Black Myth: Wukong, 30-40% of most major Japanese and Western game sales came from China.

Zhang stated that this percentage remained constant, regardless of whether the game had a Chinese theme or not, mentioning games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Palworld, and Needy Girl Overdose as examples.

It is clear that China consistently accounts for at least 30-40% of sales.

While China may not have extensive experience in developing home console or AAA PC games, they have been working in the gaming industry for a long time and have a strong presence in mobile games, which will undoubtedly benefit them in the future.
