Our Experience Using OTG Cable: The Most Important Features and How to Use it

Previously, we discussed an important topic that was published on the Computer World blog about reviewing 5 reasons to buy an OTG cable for your smartphone or tablet. Many followers realized the importance of this cable and the benefits it brings when you own it for your smartphone or tablet. Through the USB port it provides on the device, you can add more features that will undoubtedly change your phone experience. However, in the topic of reasons, we only touched briefly on the most important features that attract you to own it, while in this topic we want to shed more light on the features of the cable and how to use them if you have already purchased the cable. Allow me to share my experience with you.

1- Using Flash Drive with Your Android Phone

One of the great advantages of the OTG cable is that since it also provides a USB, you can connect a flash drive to it to view it on the phone. This is useful in multiple situations as it saves a lot of time. Without an OTG cable, you would need a computer to transfer files from the flash drive and then send them to the phone via a USB cable. With the OTG cable, you can transfer files directly from the flash drive to the phone.
All you need to do is plug the flash drive into the cable and then start plugging the cable into the Micro USB port on the phone. Then swipe down the “status bar” on the phone to find a notification that a storage disk is connected to the phone. By pressing this notification, the flash drive will be ejected as on computers. To start browsing the flash drive files, open the file manager app on the phone and you will find the USB storage A within the local storage disks. By clicking on it, the contents of the flash drive will be displayed in full, allowing you to browse files such as images, videos, PDF files, etc.

Additionally, you can easily transfer files from the flash drive to the phone’s memory or internal storage as if you were using a computer. One special thing is the speed of data transfer, as you can select files from the flash drive and then either copy or move them to other storage drives on the phone, and you will notice that the process does not take a long time compared to doing the same process via a computer.

2- Printing Files Using Your Phone

The OTG cable also allows you to print files from your phone to your printer. If you have a PDF file on your phone that you want to print, you don’t need to transfer the file to the computer and then print it. Instead, you can print directly from your phone using the OTG cable with an app called PrinterShare Print Service. However, if your printer supports Wi-Fi connection, you won’t need any of this, but there are printers that do not have Wi-Fi, so you can follow this method in that case.

First, connect the USB cable of the printer to the OTG cable and then connect it to the phone. After installing the PrinterShare app, go to the file you want to print, long press it, choose Share, and when the “Share via” window appears, choose PrinterShare. Immediately the app will open and you will notice that it recognizes the printer you connected via the USB cable. You can click on Select, then Direct USB Connected, and then a preview of the pages to be printed will be displayed. If you want to make any changes, you can click on the Options button, and when you are ready to print, click on the Print button, and the printer will start printing the pages of this file immediately.

3- Controlling Your Phone with a Mouse

One of the simplest and most important things you can do after owning a USB cable is to share the device’s mouse with the phone. Here, you will get many advantages to make using the phone easier. However, it is essential that the USB mouse, whether wired or wireless, be connected to the OTG cable.
After connecting it to the phone, you will find a notification in the “status bar” informing you that a mouse has been connected to the phone. By moving the mouse, the mouse pointer will appear on the screen, allowing you to control the phone as if it were a computer. You can select using the left button, scroll with the scroll wheel, and here is something different: pressing the right button will go back, and pressing the scroll wheel will move to the home page.

4- Playing Games with a Gamepad

If you use a Game-pad controller for gaming on your computer, you can also use it on your phone and enjoy gaming without any problems, whether wired or wireless, as long as it has the USB part that you will start connecting to the OTG cable and then to the phone. In this case, you will not notice any notification on the phone that an external device has been connected, as the gamepad will work silently!
But as soon as you enter any game and start using the Game-pad, you will notice that it interacts with the game and allows you to play smoothly and quickly. Through our experience, we also noticed that the controller can not only be used in games but also allows you to control the phone with its buttons, such as navigating between apps, launching them, going back, and other commands. You will also notice that the controller interacts with the phone, not just the games.

These are just the most beneficial features of the OTG cable, which undoubtedly give you a different experience on your phone. However, our discussion about this genius cable won’t end here, as we will later prepare topics to learn how to run it on phones that do not support it so that all smartphone users can benefit from these features and advantages.
