OpenAI tests ChatGPT application on Windows system for paid subscribers.
OpenAI has announced the release of a trial version of the ChatGPT application on the Windows operating system, currently available through the Microsoft app store. This test is part of the company’s plans to expand the use of the popular artificial intelligence application on a wider range of systems.
The application is currently only available to subscribers of paid plans, such as the individual plus plan, as well as business and educational team plans. The company has confirmed that the application will be available later to all users, including those with free accounts.
The ChatGPT application on Windows offers a similar experience to that available on macOS, allowing users to interact with the AI robot through a dedicated window that remains open alongside other applications. Users can quickly access the application using the “Alt and Space” shortcut, making it easy to use.
Among the new features, users can upload files and images to ChatGPT and interact with them, as well as access a trial version of the advanced “o1” model, which supports advanced thinking and reasoning capabilities. However, the application still lacks features such as advanced voice mode.
Earlier, the company launched the application on macOS in June last year, but faced a security issue where conversations were stored in unencrypted texts. OpenAI quickly fixed the loophole, and encryption is now the default mode for protecting locally stored data.
The application is compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11, supporting both light and dark modes with the ability to switch between them. Access to ChatGPT remains available through the web and mobile device applications as well, providing users with multiple options for interacting with the application.
