Omegle in 2024: What are the risks and here are five alternatives to it after its closure

Omegle bid farewell in 2023 after 14 years of providing a service that attracted thousands of users: anonymous online chats without registration.

You may not know it, but this platform born in 2009 was one of the most important platforms, not only for meeting people online, but also for the controversies it sparked over the years, which is the main reason that led its founder to shut down the site.

Despite all its risks, other platforms have emerged that benefit from its name, with more famous alternatives like Chatroulette.

It may not seem familiar to you at all, but since its inception in 2009, Omegle has been one of the most widely-used platforms for maintaining completely anonymous online conversations.

In that year, 18-year-old Leif K. Brooks, from Vermont (USA) and in his final year of high school, decided to create his own website, which quickly caught the attention of many users.

Just days after its launch, the founder announced that the number of users had reached 1800 users; we would only have to wait a few weeks until Omegle reached 150,000 page views daily.

However, in the same year, a competitor emerged, Chatroulette, a platform for anonymous online chats founded by the controversial figure Andrei Ternovski, with the goal of meeting new people.

Young Leif saw the success of video calls, so he added this feature to Omegle the following year, in addition to the anonymous text chats.

Currently, Omegle is still present in 2024, although it can only be accessed through a web browser, as its applications have been banned on iOS and Android due to inappropriate behavior towards minors.

To use Omegle in 2024, the first thing you need to search for in the browser is the correct address, as other names benefiting from its name will appear. In this sense, you should access omegle.cc.

However, there are many alternatives that, despite their similarity to the original system, have an interface that gives them their own name. These are the best alternatives to Omegle:

– Chatroulette: It is the most famous and oldest in this list, dating back to the same year Omegle was born. To use it, you will need to create an account, although the process is practically the same: engage in video chats with other users until you find what you are looking for.

– Fruzo: This one closely resembles a social dating network, allowing users to create profiles, add friends, and follow conversations with each of them. Registration is mandatory here.

– TinyChat: This app also focuses on video calls, but not individually, but in groups of several people. Through it, you can access rooms where discussions on a specific topic take place, as well as create interest-based rooms you are looking for.

– YouNow: It sets itself apart from adult content, as it resembles a live streaming platform. Therefore, it operates similarly to live streaming on Twitch, with the goal of increasing followers.

– ChatRandom: Another app similar to Omegle. From there, you can talk, without pre-registration, with people from all over the world on any topic that comes to mind. Users typically learn languages, although video calls are practically random.

With the closure of Omegle, these apps have become more popular. But nonetheless, extreme caution should be exercised when meeting people on these types of platforms.
