New feature in Threads app to display activity status sparks user interaction.

Meta has revealed a new feature in the Threads app aimed at enhancing user experience by facilitating direct interaction. The new feature involves a green badge next to a user’s profile picture when they are online, making it easier for others to know who is available for immediate communication.

Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, explained that the purpose of this addition is to help users easily find their friends while browsing the app, leading to quicker and more interactive conversations. While this step may enhance direct interaction between users, it does not address many users’ desire for more content related to current events and developments.

Although the activity status feature may be useful in encouraging immediate conversations, Threads still lacks the direct messaging feature, which is available on other platforms like X and Instagram. In this context, Meta has confirmed that they do not plan to add direct messaging to the app at the moment, raising questions about the effectiveness of this feature in meeting users’ long-term needs.
