Microsoft CEO Confident in Completing Activision Acquisition Despite Sony’s Attempts
Those following the news and updates about games and the gaming industry are aware that Microsoft previously announced its acquisition of Activision in a deal worth $68.7 billion, which has sparked interest and discussions worldwide regarding its impact on future competition.
Microsoft will now own one of the three biggest gaming titles globally including GTA 5, FIFA, and Call of Duty, which is something Microsoft is striving for despite Sony’s attempts, as Sony is tracking this deal to delay it at least, a move that can be observed through the decision of the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
When the deal moved to the second stage of scrutiny and investigation to determine if competition with Sony will be affected after the deal closure, Mr. Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, commented during an interview with Bloomberg, where he confidently stated that they are sure of closing the deal of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision.
Despite all the obstacles that certain parties are trying to put in Microsoft’s way, and that they are indeed sure that the process is extremely massive, requiring some time for approval, but ultimately Activision will be under the ownership of Microsoft along with Call of Duty.
The latter also commented on Sony’s recent statements, indicating that they welcome competition as long as Sony is one of the top five companies in the video game industry, and thus they are ready to compete at the highest level. Such statements are carefully chosen by Microsoft as they do not mention anything related to monopolies.
In order not to impact the deal in this sensitive situation, Sony is playing all of its cards recently to prevent this process. On the other hand, Microsoft is confident that all parties will agree to its full acquisition of Activision.
