META bans accounts tracking private jets on Instagram and Threads

Meta has closed accounts on Instagram and Threads specialized in tracking private jet movements of celebrities and their carbon emissions, according to a report by TechCrunch.
The company justified its decision to protect individuals’ privacy and prevent potential risks to their safety, in response to recommendations from an independent oversight board. The ban included accounts tracking the flights of Taylor Swift, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg.
Jack Sweeney, a college student in his twenties and founder of some similar accounts, confirmed the news on his personal account. Sweeney has faced similar opposition before, as Elon Musk banned his account on X in late 2022 and received a legal warning from Taylor Swift’s lawyer.
Despite the U.S. administration’s decision to allow owners of private jets to hide their flight data, Sweeney asserts the possibility of continuing his work through alternative sources.
