Medjourney, an artificial intelligence platform, has announced plans to launch a new web tool developed to enable users to edit images using generative artificial intelligence techniques. This step is part of enhancing the platform’s capabilities to meet the needs of users who want to reshape and color images based on simple text commands.
David Holtz, CEO of Medjourney, confirmed that the new tool will be available “early next week” and will provide advanced capabilities for editing images in a seamless and effective way. Users will be able to easily change and reshape image elements, opening up new avenues for digital creativity.
Editing images using artificial intelligence has become a controversial topic recently, with some major platforms such as Meta facing issues regarding the classification of AI-modified images compared to those created entirely through generative models. On the other hand, companies like Google are working on providing advanced AI-based features without direct visual indication that the images have been edited.
Last year, Medjourney took a step in complying with IPTC standards that add descriptive data indicating that the images were created using artificial intelligence, but it has not yet adopted the C2PA technology, which is used to fully track the source of the image including the tools and software used in its production.
The new image editing tool will initially be available to a limited group of current users, with enhanced human oversight to ensure the responsible use of technology. Holtz expressed the company’s commitment to providing these features safely and responsibly, to prevent any potential violations such as intellectual property rights infringement or dissemination of fake content (Deepfake).
Reports indicate that the spread of fake content has increased significantly this year, according to Clarity, a company specializing in deepfake detection, raising growing concerns about the impact of these tools on the credibility of digital content.
Amid the legal challenges facing Medjourney regarding the use of copyrighted content in training its models, the platform is working on improving its user experience and expanding its technological capabilities. Recently, the platform opened its website to all users and introduced a new photo editor that allows direct editing of AI-generated images via the browser.
